The book begins by outlining the demographic forces and legal developments that create the environment in which diversity management is needed. It then presents a series of models that describe and explain the processes involved and examines how diversity has, does, and should work with respect to a series of dimensions, including gender, race or ethnicity, age, disability, obesity, sexual orientation, and social class. About the Author
Margaret S. Stockdale is Associate Professor and the Experimental Program Director in the Department of Psychology at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. She has published numerous journal articles and several books, including Sexual Harassment in the Workplace (1996, edited) and Women and Men in Organizations: Sex and Gender Issues in the Workplace (2000, with Jeanette N. Cleveland and Kevin R. Murphy). In addition to her academic work Dr. Stockdale is an active applied psychology consultant.

Faye J. Crosby is Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She has published numerous books, reviews, and articles in the area of social justice, including Juggling (1991), still widely cited for its role in influencing employers’ views of working mothers. She is also the editor of Sex, Race and Merit: Debating Affirmative Action in Education and Employment (2000, with Cheryl VanDeVeer) and Spouse, Parent, Worker: On Gender and Multiple Roles (1987).

Extraordinary Introduction to Workplace Diversity

This is an extraordinary introduction to the dynamics and management of workplace diversity. The text is written from both a managerial and psychological perspective, which will prove useful to the HR practitioner. A number of case studies are interwoven throughout the book to illustrate issues that might arise in the workplace and possible resolutions to them. The book also lays out a fairly detailed and compelling business case for workplace diversity. As the workforce becomes increasingly diverse and intertwining issues increasingly emerge, HR practitioners and business managers will find this an essential introductory text.

This is an extraordinarily well researched, well-presented, and masterfully edited work on the psychology and management of diversity. The authors have taken the subject well beyond the surface rhetoric and HR parlance of 'valuing diversity'--indeed, they have driven right up to the door of bias and prejudice and sped on through to a deeper level of understanding, by credibly and convincingly making the case for why diversity is good for business. I have used this work in my university classes and recommend it to others. The case references are extremely useful in helping doubters see the 'real time' benefits of enlightened thinking in a complex and conflicted world.

Bob DuCharme (http://www.snee.com/bob) is a solutions architect at TopQuadrant, a provider of software for modeling, developing, and deploying semantic web applications. He came to TopQuadrant from Innodata Isogen, where he did system and architecture analysis and design for a wide range of global publishing clients as well as cochairing the 2008 Linked Data Planet conference in New York City. Details, details, no principles.

I bought this book by mistake, having confused Sparql with Spark SQL. Of course, no mentioning of that similarity is in the book, because the attitude of the author is that you must know better, and if not its your problem. Since I have bought it, I decided to get familiar with the subject. But here again same problem. The author does not try explain any basic ideas or principles. Having written a couple of meaningless for me lines as "explanation", he immediately pass to technical details. Thats what this book is all about: details without general principles. It may be useful for professionals, but it is useless as an introduction. So I put 3 stars, because the details may be good for somebody who needs them, but for me this book is useless.

Excellent for learning and as a reference

An excellent source book to master the intricacies of SPARQL queries against triple stores or graph databases. It is excellent for the learning process as well as a reference book supporting daily operations. Anyone working with W3C semantic technologies wil probably find this a very useful resource.

Perfect love the large color photographs. A great buy. So helpful!!! In response to the one negative review: As an experienced speech therapist who has been working with patients with aphasia for years, I wanted to share that this book is very useful especially for communication groups. At first glance, like the review stated it may look like just pictures and a few questions underneath but the images really help target descriptive language and conversation. For example, the strange picture of the man with the balloon over his face stimulates all kinds of conversations and speculation. It even got the reviewer to describe it! Exercises like the ones is this book are hard to come by and are very helpful for people with expressive aphasia. I have my patients try to describe the photographs to each other. Since they are not the typical pictures that most materials have it makes for some wonderful therapy.

Not a good book...

This book lacks sustenance, there is no variety whatsoever. There is a photo and the reader has to tell what is happening in the photo, thats it. Some of the photos used are horrible quality and not clear and some of the photos are just weird e.g. a dirty drunk guy in the corner of a room with stains on his clothes holding a yellow balloon with a smiley face in front of his face. "What is going on in this photo". I don't have speech issues and I have no idea what was going on with that drunk guy. Very dissapointing purchase.

There are free books you can download that have more material than this book for $40.00. My mother had been receiving speech therapy for 20 months now. I am very familiar with the material that's out there but I was not at the time of the purchase of this book. When I showed this book to her speech pathologist at the time, he too agreed it was poorly put together. If you are a speech therapist and recommend this book for $40.00 when better books are availble, something is not right.
My mothers speech pathologist have given me great information both free and some not free. All this book offers is describe the photo, no problem solving, no yes or no, no describe how to do a task and the quality of the photos are horrible, in color.
