Thank God for this book!

This book made it possible to start using SugarCRM. I have several copies, for me and my staff, and refer to it all the time as I work on areas unfamiliar to me. My staff are very happy to have the book which sheds light on how to correctly use the system.

I could have used a better explanation of how to create custom modules but to be fair that's pretty advanced work to tackle in a work like this.

The author has made the whole system much more approachable and wrote it all in a light, fun style. If you are trying to make head or tales of how to get started with SugarCRM, or are a current user struggling to figure it out, this book is a must.

About the Author
Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan was born in New York City and was educated in the Torah Voda'as and Mir Yeshivot in Brooklyn. After years of study at Jerusalem's Mir Yeshiva, he was ordained by some of Israel's foremost rabbinic authorities. He also earned a master's degree in physics and was listed in Who's Who in Physics in the United States. In the course of a writing career spanning only 12 years, Rabbi Kaplan earned a reputation as one of the most effective, persuasive, scholarly, and prolific exponents of Judaism in the English language. He died on January 28, 1983, at the age of 48.

Chick Lit with good character development

Amy Wilde is a gardener in London who has a tough time meeting men despite her outgoing flat mate Jo's best intentions. Amy meets Leo at a party when his brother Rolf is out of control and breaks some of her potted plants. Amy goes on a date with Leo before she ever realizes that he is a Royal... aka exactly the kind of man Amy's dad warned her about. But Leo is different than most other Royals, in that he has a "regular" job, enjoys watching TV on his couch at night, and he is interested in Amy. I hope I'm not giving anything away when I say that Amy and Leo fall in love over the course of the book, though there are some bumps along the way that bring into question whether a regular girl can really ever fit into a Royal lifestyle.

I'm a pretty fast reader, but it took me nearly a week to finish this book, and not just because the book is 400+ pages. The Runaway Princess is chick lit, but at times it didn't feel like it. There was so much character development and description that I found myself taking my time and enjoying every single written word. I felt like all of the main characters were fleshed out extremely well and I was rooting for everyone by the end of the book.

My only request? The Runaway Princess NEEDS a sequel so we can find out what happens to Amy, Leo, Jo, and Rolf!

Fair Read

I've read every Hester Browne novel since reading The Little Lady Agency a few years back. She has a clear, funny writing style that I think many "chick lit" novels seriously lack. I enjoyed the aforementioned Little Lady Agency and Browne's last release, Swept Off Her Feet. I was less pleased with The Finishing Touches and the 2nd Little Lady book and, unfortunately, this one as well.

My main issue with The Runaway Princess is that it feels too recycled. Browne's heroines are all a bit too alike, something I'm at odds with because they make me feel like a good friend of Browne's. To have four main, first person characters who all share several identical traits is a bit much to believe it's not totally coincidentally fictional. But I'm never bored with these girls, so that's not the recycled bit that I'm talking about. What I'm talking about is other things: the BFFs of these women are identical, there are unbelievable yet comedic families (particularly heavy on the sister front), the love interests are dreamy, typical guys (the exception being Nelson). The only thing that changes is the details of the plot, and even that is only slight at best.

This plot didn't appeal to me much, so in that sense I knew what I was getting into. I don't find it attractive to be a royal or someone famous and I was really hoping Amy would choose someone different, particularly (and this brings me back to the recycled bit) because Leo is much, much too familiar, being a clear composite of mostly Jonathon and Nelson from Little Lady Agency. I also didn't like all the royal name dropping; it was to be expected but it was way overkill by the end of the book, which was way too slow in coming. Add to that the family "mystery/secret" that Amy withheld until almost the very end (making it more predictable and, therefore, less terrible than it was built up to be). But this book had several funny moments. In fact, I would say this was Browne's funniest of the bunch.

New spin on Cinderella

I love Hester's writing..but this story was a little too much to believe. It was a spin on Cinderella..wicked mother-in-law and sister-in-law and all. I'm sure it meets many womens requirements for a Prince..but it was so sappy and predictable..I found myself rolling my eyes and saying "really?". Good for transporting the reader into a different world..but it was a little too sappy and predictable for my taste.. Still like Hester Brown's writing though..

Supurb

Unless you have spent every moment of every day for ten years studying immunology, keep a computer nearby while going over this book because you will not remember every molecule and cellular pathway mentioned throughout this highly detailed and comprehensive textbook. However, that being the case, nobody designed life to be simple for people to comprehend fully. This book has so much detailed information in it it is a must have for any physiologist or pathologist. It is more advanced than would be necessary for a medical practitioner, but for a medical researcher, one must get this book if they ever work on pathogenic or autoimmune disorders.

More than fundamental

This is, undoubtdly, the most complete guide for immunology. It shows all aspects of the issue, including biochemistry and disease context. Futhermore, the interaction between innate response and adaptive response is aborded, once is rarely showed by the other books. I do recommend!

Superb account of EU state-building

Cris Shore has written a quite outstanding book on the European Union, showing how its leaders aim to create a single European state.
The EU's founders warned us that they sought to destroy the sovereignty and independence of its member states. Jean Monnet wrote, "Everyday realities will make it possible to form the political union which is the goal of our Community and to establish the United States of Europe." Konrad Adenauer said that the original proposal for pooling French and German steel production was "first and foremost political, not economic. This plan was to be the beginning of a federal structure of Europe."
Later, Chancellor Kohl said, "In Maastricht we laid the foundation stone for the completion of the European Union. The European Union Treaty introduces a new and decisive stage in the process of European Union which within a few years will lead to the creation of what the founding fathers of modern Europe dreamed after the last war: the United States of Europe."
In practice, the EU has already gone far towards creating a new state, although it has signally failed to create one that is honest and democratic. As Shore writes, "To most critical observers it seems quite evident that the European Community has acquired most of the characteristics of a state, however much some might wish to deny this." And, "with its single currency, its Central Bank and treaty control over money supply and borrowing, the EU takes on the powers of a sovereign state, albeit a transnational state without a democratic government." As Pascal Lamy, Delors' chef de cabinet, admitted, "The people weren't ready to agree to integration, so you had to get on without telling them too much about what was happening."
The Committee of Independent Experts reported in 1999 that fraud, cronyism, mismanagement and cover-ups were rife in the European Commission, summarising, "It is becoming difficult to find anyone who has even the slightest sense of responsibility." Shore concludes that the Report "exposed ... the extraordinary degree to which patronage, fraud and corruption ... had become established, even institutionalised, within the Commission."

Important contribution

Chris Shore's "Building Europe" is an innovative study of the European Union, and should be taken seriously. Shore is one of the first to jump in the post-EMU debate: now that Europe has almost completed Economic Union, what are the expectations, challenges, and impossibilities with regard to further integration? Shore offers a systematic discussion of the role of 'culture' in the European Union. How has a European identity been created, or not!, among both citizens and civil servants in Brussels? Shore turns out to be quite critical in the end. Europeanism is not strongly rooted among the peoples of Europe. And the elites in Brussels are far from what a perfect European bureaucrat must be like. He concludes that the goal of European federalism, which so strongly depends on some form of common European identity, may be one bridge too far. To conclude, Shore's informed and refreshing perspective on the actual challenges to European integration forms an important contribution to the debate. Anyone who wants to think of tomorrow's Europe may probably want to read "Building Europe", no matter if you agree or disagree with Shore's final conclusions.

What Matters Most?

In a world in which we live and work in technological isolation, World Cafe holds the promise of conversations of real meaning. Who knows maybe conservatives and progressives could find some common ground. I liked the explication of the Spirit of World Cafe. It's not technique. It's a vehicle for creating a world of our choosing.

Extremely Helpful Resource

I was introduced to this book through our Synod Pastors Enrichment Program. In our setting, it was designed to help me to understand and begin conversations among our members.

The most important aspect of this in our setting was the revolving tables ... meaning that small cliques didn't develop, but even more importantly, it allowed for discussions to be broader than between one small group. If you are looking into ways to set up conversations about important issues in your church and community, this is an excellent resource. It helps your participants (hopefully) look outside of the box and see possibilities instead of looking at ways things have always been done.

I suggest this as an excellent resource for churches going through a self-study in anticipation of seeking a new pastor, of pastors wanting to understand their congregations, and for any community wanting to hear voices that are often silenced through the majority.

A remarkable book about a remarkable concept

I feel very privileged to consider Juanita Brown and her partner David Isaacs as good friends and trusted colleagues. We worked with David Isaacs last year to apply the World Caf� to the first World Congress on the Future of Work in San Francisco. It was so successful that we'll be using it again in Philadelphia this spring.

For those of you who haven't yet experienced a World Caf�, we can only offer our condolences. It's unlike any other "tool" we've ever seen or used for enabling a group of individuals to become what Juanita likes to call a "collective wisdom." The World Caf� enables all participants at an event to meet, interact with, and learn from all the other participants. It is as different from a typical conference (with PowerPoint presentations and jumbotron television screens) as an intimate dinner with a lover is from a gathering of the faithful in St. Peter's Square in Rome.

This remarkable book is a rich and compelling conversation in itself about an incredibly important "new" process for generating new ideas, insights, relationships, and deep personal conversations. We are true believers, and even with our past experience with the World Caf� we found the compilation of personal stories, guidelines, and case examples wonderfully inspirational.

This is truly a remarkable book. I endorse it without reservation. No, let me go further: whether you know it or not, you need to buy this book.

Now, let me take just a few moments to give you a flavor of what this is all about. David Isaacs is fond of saying that conversation is for people what water is for fish: we are surrounded by it, but we hardly recognize how critical it is for life and meaning.

The World Caf� is an approach to group interaction that helps us remember what conversation really is: "the medium though which all of us together understand and create the realities we live in" (David Atlee, founder of the Co-Intelligence Institute, quoted in the Introduction).

When you participate in a World Caf� you find yourself seated at a small round table with three other people, who you may or may not know. The table is covered with a large piece of butcher paper, and there is a small vase of fresh flowers in the center. You have access to several crayons or markers, and you are engaging in conversation about something that really matters - typically one or two "Big Questions."

You work together for anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour, and then your Host/Hostess asks three of you to get up and move to three different tables to continue the conversation, while one remains behind to report to three new participants on the meanings behind the scribblings you've left behind on that butcher paper.

It all sounds so simple - yet the total experience is incredibly profound. You discover very quickly that the whole truly is greater than the sum of the parts. There really is a collective intelligence that is far more powerful than any of our individual insights.

To get back to the book for a final moment, it is written as a compilation of stories and examples of events where the World Caf� has been used. The book actually has many voices (what could be more appropriate?), and Juanita graciously (but not surprisingly) gives ample credit to the many thoughtful, caring people who have contributed to the process and operational design of the World Caf� over the years.

And the book is a "how to do it yourself" compendium as well. The core of the book articulates and makes real the seven core design principles of a World Caf�:

1. Set the Context

2. Create Hospitable Space

3. Explore Questions that Matter

4. Encourage Everyone's Participation

5. Cross-pollinate and Connect Diverse Perspectives

6. Listen Together for Insights, Patterns, and Deeper Questions

7. Harvest and Share Collective Discoveries.

Applied in combination, these basic design principles virtually ensure that you'll have a powerful learning and relationship-enhancing experience. Even if you never read the book, try living by these principles, and I'm willing to bet you'll find yourself having more meaningful conversations than you realized were possible.

And the best part of all this is that it isn't rocket science, a foreign language, or some elite skill that requires years to master. As David Isaacs says over and over again, it's just a matter of remembering (practicing and acting on) what you've known all along.
